Course Structure
This course covers the wide range of advanced segmentation methods that can be applied to X-ray CT data for post processing analysis. Standard binerisation methods are explored for simple structure analysis while watershed methods are explained for multiphase materials. The final parts of the course concentrate on the production of bespoke segmentation pipelines:
– Global thresholding methods
o Basic theory behind global thresholding and the current techniques used to identify phase boundaries
– Advanced global thresholding methods
o Techniques such as hysteresis, auto-thresholding etc are explained and how these can be applied
– Watershed segmentation
o What is watershed segmentation and the generation of seed points
o Application of a number seed point generation methods
o Watershed method for engineering parts
o Watershed method for multiphase materials
o Customised watershed recipes
– Local segmentation methods
o Application of local segmentation tools
o Theory of opening and closing in segmentation
o White/black hat segmentation
– Production of bespoke segmentation recipes
